Ethics Code & Fact-Checking Policy

Effective Date: July 2026 · The Banijya Editorial Standards Committee

1. Accuracy & Fact-Checking Protocol

Accuracy is the cornerstone of The Banijya. Before publication, every financial story, market statistics, regulatory quote, and company valuation is verified against primary sources, regulatory exchange filings (BSE, NSE, SEBI), or confirmed by at least two independent on-the-record sources.

2. Financial Conflicts of Interest

To maintain absolute impartiality:

  • Our editors, journalists, and financial analysts are strictly prohibited from trading individual stocks or equity derivatives in companies they cover.
  • Any long-term index mutual fund or passive holdings must be disclosed to our Ethics Officer annually.
  • We do not accept paid travel, gifts, or favors from corporate entities, PR agencies, or financial sponsors.

3. Corrections & Clarifications Policy

When a factual error occurs, we correct it promptly and transparently. Substantive corrections are appended at the top or bottom of the article with a clear editor's note specifying what was changed and when.

To report a factual error or request a correction, please email corrections@thebanijya.com.

4. Source Protection & Whistleblowers

We protect confidential sources who share news tips or expose corporate misconduct. We grant source anonymity only when the information is of vital public interest, cannot be obtained through open records, and the source's identity is verified by senior editors.

5. AI & Generative Tools Policy

While we leverage modern analytical tools for data processing, all article reporting, headline creation, and investigative synthesis are authored and verified by human journalists. We do not publish unverified AI-generated content.
